I have an answer to Philip Hoffman's question of why we'd offer free tuition to Bill Gates's children. In a society sane enough to send me free to MIT, we'd be taxing Bill Gates more than an additional hundred thousand per annum. Anybody with an income a thousand times what an honest farm labourer gets is paid more than he's worth. That means he's a thief.
